Kit List

We want the event to be fair, but most importantly, we want everyone to be safe whilst they're taking part. The information here tells you what kit is expected of teams taking part.

Kit doesn't have to be expensive, so long as it does it's job and keeps you safe!

The kit check is very strict on the Saturday Morning and your rucksack and each item will be checked in detail – YES, IT IS ALL TIPPED OUT - do not skimp, your safety depends on it.

Personal Kit

All participants must carry all of their own personal items

Inner Layer
Tops made from sports/wicking material are ideal

Middle layer
Fleece Sweater / Jumper
Layers are always better and warmer!

Trousers (No Jeans)
Fast drying trousers are recommended

Outer layer
Waterproof Jacket

Spare clothes
Warm bottoms, warm top and socks – in a plastic bag, on the inside of your bag, to keep them dry

Waterproof Trousers

Walking Boots
Please be aware that participants wearing trainers or walking shoes will not be permitted to start. This decision may vary by event and is made with participant safety in mind.

Socks

Gloves

Hat

Rucksack - lined with a strong, waterproof plastic bag
Big enough to hold all the equipment required for the walk.
Rubble sacks or rucksack liners are great for lining your bags.
Bin bags are too thin.

Waterproof Rucksack cover

*Sleeping bag
3-4 season minimum
This must be in a dry sack (not a bin liner) and kept on the inside of your rucksack.

*Sleeping mat

*Eating utensils

Torch and spare batteries
Multi LED if possible  - otherwise a spare lamp/bulb must be carried.

Bivvy Bag
Plastic or Goretex, orange in colour is ideal

Food and Drinks for Saturday Lunch
This should consist of food that can be eaten on the move

Water Bottle (Full)
Minimum of 1 litre of water to be carried

Gaiters (Optional)

First-aid kit
Must only contain items you are trained to use

Pencil and paper

Whistle
For emergency use

Hi visibility vest
This needs to be attached to the outside of your rucksack so it is clearly visible.

Emergency rations
High energy foods or min 4 mars bars – these are checked at the end!

Team Kit

To be shared out between team members in proportion to size and weight of each person.

*Adequate tentage
For all of the team to sleep in

*Stove, fuel, matches or lighter
Enough fuel to cook meals and drinks on Saturday Evening / Sunday Morning

*Pan(s)
To cook food and make hot drinks

*Food for Saturday evening meal
Dried food is lightest, look for high calorie content

*Food for Sunday Breakfast
Instant porridge (just add water) and breakfast bars are a good choice.

*Hot drinks for evening and breakfast
Hot chocolate, coffee, tea etc

Emergency Shelter(s)
Enough to house all the members of your Team.
For example, a Team of 6 will need 2 x 4 person shelters.
These are mandatory for all Teams, even if they are carrying tentage, as they are quicker and easier to put up in adverse weather, compared to a tent.

2 x maps
For area covering the route

2 x compasses

2 x map cases
If maps are not laminated

2 x watches
Watches are necessary for navigation - one that does not need to be charged would be ideal!

At least 2 x mobile phones with What 3 Words App installed
These should be brought in a waterproof bag / case.
It would be good to have numbers on different networks, to aid with signal coverage.
